As the days get shorter, I am mentally preparing myself for the forthcoming New York City winter. I was unprepared for the last one (my first ever as a resident here), so I am doing everything I can to keep a good attitude about the fast approaching season of doom. This means creating a winter bucket list (concerts, movies and museums are all fun things you can do indoors) AND gearing up my Spotify with some happier, more upbeat tunes. Today’s Love at First Listen post is a collection of my favorite feel goods*, a proven antidote for weather/career/general life-related blues.
Kate Bush/Cyndi Lauper Mashup, Orla Gartland
“I’ll Be Fine” by Clairy Browne & the Bangin’ Rackettes
“NoLo” by Grace Mitchell
“Gone” by JR JR
“Next Year (RAC Remix)” by Two Door Cinema Club
“Company” by Justin Bieber
I feel like I should put a disclaimer for this one… as many others have noted in the last week, Justin Bieber’s new album is gold standard pop. I will confess: I’ve listened to this song at least 50 times AND I DON’T PLAN ON STOPPIN’. If this makes me a “belieber,” I guess that’s what I am.
*Author’s Note: at the time of publication, I was 7 tracks deep into Adele’s new album. The song “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)” was not included on this list because of timing, but Adele has taught this New Yorker’s cold heart how to feel again. This is my shameless promotion of 25, it is everything I hoped it would be.
Lisa Davis says:
Love the JJ video and song! Beiber’s was disturbing…voyeuristic, sexual fantasy seems to be the closest company he is looking for.
